Learning Outcomes

PG Cert Clinical Issues in the Management of Diabetes:
1. To demonstrate a systematic in-depth understanding of diabetes and its clinical management.
2. To demonstrate an advanced critical understanding of the relevant evidence base and policy framework for diabetes care and management.
3. To demonstrate an advanced ability to analyse, theoretically and empirically diabetes related problems to advance the care provided to people with diabetes.
4. To demonstrate an advanced ability to deal with complex issues systematically, to be able to evaluate and synthesise complex empirical and clinical data in diabetes to demonstrate accurate interpretation of data and good clinical judgment.
5. To demonstrate an advanced ability to communicate complex material clearly and appropriately to a range of audiences and using a range of techniques.
6. To demonstrate an ability to advance diabetes care, service delivery and innovate change.

PG Dip Clinical Research in Diabetes:
•    Advanced understanding of applied qualitative and quantitative research methods in relation to diabetes care. 
•    Expertise  in literature synthesis (systematic review methods, critical appraisal, assessment of evidence and meta-analysis).
•    Advanced understanding of the research design process. 
•    In- depth understanding of the ethical issues in the conduct of research. 
•    Advanced ability to link theory to methodological approaches in addressing topics related to the advancement of knowledge in diabetes. 
•    Advanced skills in planning and conduct of research in diabetes. 
•    Expertise in the dissemination and implementation of research including how to write for academic publication.
Students undertake a systematic review of a clinical topic relevant to their clinical practice and produce a research protocol for an empirical study.

MSc Dissertation  module.
AIM: To undertake and critically analyse a research study or service development project to advance diabetes care in the students area of clinical practice.
